As the founder and General Manager of Bishops Head, Peter oversees all parts of the business. Prior to establishing Bishops Head Peter spent fifteen years gaining hands on experience in all facets of the wine business, both in NZ and overseas. After several years working at Cloudy Bay Vineyards in Marlborough he studied at Lincoln University, gaining a Bachelor of Commerce and Management in 1997 and a Post Graduate Diploma of Viticulture and Oenology in 1999. From 2004 to 2006, between overseas vintages, he was winemaker at Domain Georges Michel in Marlborough. Peter’s international experience includes harvests in South Africa and California and five vintages in France.
In particular his experiences at Domaine la Moussiere (Sancerre), Domaine de Montille (Volnay) and Domaine de la Vougeraie (Nuits St Georges) have had a strong influence on his winemaking style and philosophy.

Peter's winemaking philosophy

For our Bishops Head wines, our grapes are all grown in our own vineyards. Once the grapes are harvested we use traditional winemaking techniques to produce wines of purity and complexity.  It’s the melding of these two qualities; New Zealand grown grapes handcrafted with traditional European techniques,  that makes Bishops Head's ripe and full bodied award winning wines unique.
